According to the County Executive's office, Suffolk County officials and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation have announced that a fire warning has been issued for all parklands and public lands in Suffolk County.
County and State officials have determined that an increased risk of fire exists due to our below normal precipitation. This warning will remain in effect until further notice. Only fires in approved containers will be allowed and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will not issue any burn permits.
County Executive Robert Gaffney urged all residents and visitors to use extreme caution while spending time outdoors during this dangerous period. "It is often said that prevention is the best medicine," Gaffney stated. "By keeping the public informed, we hope to reduce the risk of wildfires caused by human activities in
our public lands."
