SIMON YOUTH FOUNDATION AWARDS
SCHOLARSHIPS
TO LOCAL STUDENTS
Christina Hung of Commack (second from
left) and Kristen L. Riccardi of Medford (second from right) were honored
today at The Mall at The Source with a $1,500 Simon Youth Foundation
Community Scholarship. Walt Whitman Mall Marketing Director Kathi Ruland
(left) and Smith Haven Mall Marketing Director Dennis Tietjen were both on
hand to present the checks to the recipients.
Christina and Kristen join a privileged
few high school seniors chosen from over 3,000 students who applied
nationwide.
Recipients of the scholarship were selected based on academic performance,
leadership skills, participation in school and community activities and
financial need. Christina excelled in her studies at Commack High School
and is an Intel semi-finalist, Seemens-Westinghouse finalist and has
received the Long Island Science Congress’ highest honors. She will
attend Harvard University this fall and plans to double major in chemistry
and biology.
Kristen is following in her sister Danielle’s, who received the Simon
Youth Foundation Community Scholarship in 2000, footsteps. Kristen was a
distinguished student at Medford High School as a National Honor Society
member and leading actress in school and community theatre productions.
This fall she will attend the University of Maryland to major in English.
The Community Scholarship Program was established in 1999 as part of the
Simon Youth Foundation, Simon Property Group’s not-for-profit
organization dedicated to providing educational and career development
opportunities to youth. The goal of the program is to support the
financial needs of qualified students planning to pursue higher education
at any accredited college, university or vocational-technical school.
