Suffolk
County Executive Robert Gaffney joined hundreds of Long Island business
people at the Hauppauge Industrial Association's Business Achievement
Awards Luncheon today, presenting the
region's most prestigious business awards on Computer Associates
International, Inc., Nextech Training Solutions LLC,
and The Omnicon Group, Inc.
"It
is always a pleasure to be able to recognize the achievements of such
dynamic companies," said HIA President Norman Weingart. "If not for the dedication and commitment of these and
so many other Long Island businesses we wouldn't have such a thriving
economy."
The
Large Business Achievement Award, given to a company with more than 100
employees belongs to Computer Associates International, Inc., a well-known
member of Long Island's corporate community.
CA provides advanced and comprehensive software solutions for
eBusiness including process and infrastructure management, security,
storage, predictive analysis and more.
Headquartered on Long Island, the company has more than 18,000
employees worldwide and revenue in excess of $6 billion for the fiscal
year ended March 31, 2000. Last year its revenues increased by seven
percent and operating net income increased to $677 million.
The
Small Business Achievement Award was given to The Omnicon Group, Inc.
Founded in 1984 by Scott Abrams, Omnicon is an engineering development and
service company specializing in software, systems, reliability, safety and
test equipment engineering. Omnicon's
strong employee relations focus has resulted in near zero employee
turnover. It currently employs 30 people and from 1996 to 2000 its sales
increased 140%.
The
HIA's Rookie of the Year Award went to Nextech Training Solutions LLC,
which was founded by Russell C. Izzo two years ago to fill the need
for high-quality computer-based training in response to an urgent need for
information technology professionals in both the United States and abroad.
Nextech prepares students of information technology to pass
certification exams offered by companies such as Microsoft and Novell. The
size of Nextech's team increased by 1500% in fiscal year 2000 and it
opened several new facilities.
The
Hauppauge Industrial Association is an 800-member grass roots,
action-oriented business organization whose mission is to help companies
thrive on Long Island and help their employees be successful at their
jobs.
