When students graduate from our local high schools they will probably either go on to higher educational institutions or start working. Whatever direction they choose they will be taking their place as a contributing member of our society and the leadership of East Islip UFSD and Dowling College believe their School/Business Partnershipp program will help the students achieve that goal. The Partnership is a venture by which business and education joins together to facilitate the connection between education and the workplace. Students have the opportunity to become involved in various projects which allow them to get a sense for the business world and for their future careers. It also focuses on educating and training students, giving them the skills they will need to be competitive in the workplace, and emphasizes the career opportunities available on Long Island by exposing students to successful local companies. The alliance brings together businesses, educators, parents, students and community members whose objective is to develop career awareness and preparedness to meet the standards required to be successful at a job. Corporations benefit from this association by enhancing their corporate image, providing input about skills needed in the workplace, and motivating corporate staff to become models of excellence. Students benefit by participating in projects such as Shadow Day, the development of a Career Resource Guide, and direct exposure to Long Island businesses.
