PRESENTS
CELLO
MASTER CLASS WITH JULIE ALBERS,
TO BE HELD AT HILLWOOD RECITAL HALL,
TILLES CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
JULIE ALBERS, cellist, is destined to be one of the most acclaimed and beloved American artists of the 21st century. She is already recognized for superlative artistry, intense musicianship and charismatic performing style far beyond her 21 years. Julie moved to Cleveland during her junior year in high school to pursue studies through the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In February 1998, Julie Albers made a widely received debut with The Cleveland Orchestra, performing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, one of the cornerstone works of the instrument’s repertoire. Just days later and on a few hours’ notice, she replaced an indisposed colleague and repeated the work with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. The 2,500 member, sold-out audience was so demonstrative and the critical reception so compelling that Music Director David Wiley immediately invited Ms. Albers back to open the 1998-99 season, playing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1. Julie subsequently launched her international career. In addition to her debut with The Cleveland Orchestra, Julie Albers’ recent engagements include a recital at Washington’s National Museum of Women in the Arts and concerto performances with the Indianapolis, Annapolis, and San Antonio Symphony Orchestras, as orchestral soloist with several orchestras including those in her native Colorado, and many others. Julie Albers is honored to play a cello crafted in 1790 in Naples by Vincenzo Ventapane. This magnificent instrument had been graciously loaned to her from the collection of Ray A. Carlsen of Bellevue, Washington. Julie Albers was appointed Principal Cellist of the Long Island Philharmonic in 2002.
The number of participants in the Julie Albers Cello Master Class is limited. Applicants should submit an application form, a cassette tape or CD, and letter of recommendation from a school music director/teacher and/or private teacher by February 24, 2003 to:
