The
Huntington Arts Council Inc. and the Suffolk Decentralization Consortium are
pleased to announce the recipients of the 2003 Decentralization Grants for the
Arts Regrant Program.
These
grants are funded annually through the New York State Council on the Arts via
the Huntington Arts Council Inc. As the administrative site for the Suffolk
County program, the Huntington Arts Council leads a consortium of six Suffolk
County arts councils, representing each geographic region of Suffolk County
including The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts, The Islip Arts Council, The
Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council, The East End Arts Council, and The
Smithtown Township Arts Council.
A total of $93,100 was awarded among the 49 grant recipients, from over
65 applicants for the 2003 calendar year, once again illustrating how the arts
are alive and well in Suffolk County! Funding decision are made by a volunteer
panel of Suffolk County artists, arts professionals and community leaders.
Reaching out to every corner of richly diverse Suffolk County, grant
recipients range from the largest of our cultural centers to the smallest of our
rural villages and represent all artistic disciplines, including music, theater,
poetry, dance, media, and the humanities. Additionally,
these community arts projects also reflect on our history, explore our natural
environment, and examine difficult social issues. The goals of the Grants for
the Arts Program include fostering an appreciation and participation in the arts
and making the arts more accessible to the people of Suffolk County.
The Huntington Arts Council is pleased to be the administrative site for
this program for over twenty years. In addition to the Grants for the Arts
Program, the Huntington Arts Council and members of the Suffolk Decentralization
Consortium offer technical assistance and professional development through
consultations, workshops, publications, and networking opportunities. For more
