led the Ducks to a 4-1 Opening Day victory over Newark
in front of a sold-out Citibank Park crowd Friday.

former Major League Baseball All-Star Carl Everett, who
said during media day that 2008 will be his last season
if he does not receive an offer from a big league
franchise. Pete Rose Jr., Damien Rolls, Estee Harris,
Kevin Haverbusch, and catcher Jamie Pogue also were
members of last season’s unit that captured the second
half division championship.

will host a Fall Festival and Haunted House Tour at
Sagtikos Manor on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Rain

year’s event will feature ghost tours of the Manor House
and Cemetery, stories by Jonathan Kruk, outdoor races

quickly ended a nearly five-month journey that featured

Wandering
through the airport terminal, Jose Espinal was set to
board Southwest Airlines en route to the next stop of
his professional baseball career. The right-hander
packed his clothes and his off-speed repertoire.
He was set to join the Road Warriors...Instead
of playing out the string on an out-of-contention club,
Espinal’s agent worked out a deal with the Ducks,
providing the team with a veteran starter and the
pitcher with a chance to contribute to a championship
contender.

wouldn’t be a complete summer for the Long Island Ducks
without Bill Pulsipher.
The veteran left-hander will make it four
consecutive seasons he played at least a part of a
season with the club, agreeing to contract terms after
the Mexican League season concluded.
Pulsipher, who pitched on the 2004 championship team, is
one of four Duck players to make it back to the majors
after a stint in the Atlantic League.

Instead
of jogging from the bullpen to the pitcher’s mound, Mark
Watson trotted out with eight Long Island Ducks
teammates to take the field before the first pitch...Watson,
primarily a middle-to-late-inning reliever, probably
wished he could have stayed in the bullpen.
The former Cincinnati Reds’ southpaw tied a Ducks
record by giving up five home runs in a 6-3 loss to the
Camden Riversharks in Game 1.
Camden also went on to win the nightcap, 5-1, in
front of 6,501 fans.

to Syracuse

Ducks already know the pitching staff can persevere
without Randy Leek.
In May, the Levittown native left the team to
pitch in Taiwan. He returned last month,
emerging as the ace on a first-place club.
But the Ducks will now be forced to entering
the stretch run without the veteran lefthander after
the Blue Jays signed him to a minor league contract.
